Fear makes us ponder , Reason conquers : Fear, ghosts, God--that's all we are talking about, isn't it? Ghosts arise from fear. So, too, does God. How? When we talk of a ghost, we think of a shadowy shape. God, too, appears in a shadowy shape. If a 'shadowy shape' stands for both a ghost and God, how are you going to make a distinction between the two? Hence, you can well understand, if you make the least slip in measuring the distance as you go along the road, ghost and God, God and ghost both get mixed up. If you look sharp as you go along, this fear will lead you to God. There isn't anything like ghosts, or God. There's nothing in either. However, both are needed for practical purposes.
Weakness is the root cause of fear: A weak mind is prone to fear. Fear is another name for ghosts. A stout mind has energy. Energy is another name for God. Ghosts mean ignorance, and God means Knowledge. You should know that weak nerves are the cause of fear. It is furthered by the ignorance of mummy, granny and neighbours. People bring up a child very much in the way they themselves were brought up. Nobody can curb an impulse which is overwhelmingly strong in a man.
One submits to Power because of weakness: Once you recognize God, the next step is energy. That's the last step, too. First, articles of worship, then Form--Form leads to Formless--in the end comes up the question of energy. We carry on with reason as far as we can. Proceeding with reason, one may discuss and analyze. In the end, however, one recognizes Energy. If there, does somebody like that? Nothing, however, remains unknown to that person. His reason has brought everything within its sweep. His 'recognition' simply comes to this humility and modesty. -"So I set in order one by one I All the things to give it shape, / I create a Form. I God art Thou, Energy is Thine / Thou art merciful / Thy slave I would be."
Reasoning is the path to Achievement: When somebody fails to get round it with reason, he has to submit to Power. So far you can reason, no God. When with the aid of reason, one interpretation after another is forthcoming; one's view undergoes a change accordingly. God with Form or Formless, Power--so it goes on. The shadow appears and slips away. But "Suddhabhram"--a holy-illusion is not the last word. Of course, how many can rise above it? Then whose image is this reflected in the mirror of the mind? 'Paramatman'--the Oversoul is realized. Realization depends upon a person's purity of conduct. Nevertheless, all the time, body, mind and soul-these three remain the essence of the matter.
Is there, indeed, anything anywhere : "A weak mind is given to fear. Fear is another name for ghosts. A stout mind contains energy. Energy is another name for God."-lf that's true, why do you now say--We have to recognize Energy owing to the weakness of our mind.--Doesn't that lead to a contradiction? Mother's reply was spontaneous-- A wise, strong and reasoning mind recognizes or looks for Energy. It is in that sense that I said -Only a stout mind contains energy. Owing to a remarkable strength of mind, he can deal with many subjects but not all. When reason comes to the end of its tether, a man has to put his faith in something or other. "Neither Form nor Formless, but there's something to rest on. That's referred to as "Energy". The moment a man accepts the principle of Energy -he takes leave of reason. However great his strength of mind may be, he becomes weak at that very moment. There's something called Energy, yet it isn't there. There's everything, yet nothing.
Part of my mind accepts energy and the other part rejects it, too : Besides, a mind of mine accepts Form. You speak of Formless; I'm with you there, too. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Be all things to all men. So all this is necessary. You go up systematically and you'll understand everything. However, don't give out what you understand. What can you have by just giving out? You may make it known, but don't ask anybody to go that way. That way is highly inaccessible. So don't assure them by saying that there's no such thing as Energy. That'll cause confusion. There's no question of rejection. I'm for accepting everything.
The where and how of Rebirth: I couldn't find anything like Rebirth. So long as man reaches the highest level of excellence, he will go through the cycles of birth and death. This isn't simply true. When at last he reaches the highest path, he will have declared- there's no such thing as rebirth. Because of the 'Forms of Desire' we have to accept the fact of rebirth. When a man reaches the highest path, he'll probe everything and find that what passes for rebirth is nothing but a hoax. I've turned it over and fingered it but could find nothing.
Knowledge of the "Brahaman" : It's never possible to attain to a knowledge of the Brahman-- The Supreme being, disregarding general knowledge. You can only have a comprehension of metaphysics. That grows with culture. That is all. At no time, it amounts to complete realization.
Profound Renunciation Begets Profound Knowledge : If a person wishes to unravel the mystery, he's to set his foot on to know where did this created world come from, how made, why, what for and so on and so forth. Thus do come his renunciation and non- attachment, eh? If he cares to know deeply, he's to renounce deeply.
Knowledge Emanates From Energy: Knowledge is the male principle--all the manifestation of knowledge is derived from seminal vigour. The female principle is energy because it is the container. Which comes first, knowledge or energy? Knowledge derives from energy. If we unerringly probe, we find energy at the root of things. Since knowledge has a big office, it gets more publicity, energy is a little subdued. The male is a sword unsheathed and the female is that sheath.
Tracing back life to its Origin : At the root of all creation is that vapour. The vapour comes in such a stream that at the moment life is created, dual forms each unlike the other, come into being. They have like shapes, but probing further, the duality is discovered. To begin with, a whole swarm was created. Not to speak of man only, those born in a mother's womb, fertilized by father, all those living creatures were created in swarms. At the beginning of creation, there was no question of sexual reproduction. The creatures appeared in swarms and joined the streams. Other swarms came and poured into that stream.
Charles Darwin has had no concern: Do you think all at once a full-grown man appeared for the first time? No, that wasn't ever. Man was created out of a special vapour. You say, what's the harm in saying that man was once a monkey, an ape like gorilla? Slowly his appearance has changed. Nothing like that has taken place. Man has sprung from man and that goes on still. The brain has developed. Owing to that, some little change of bodily appearance is observed. If men derived from apes, why have some apes been left out?
Where to take the stand ? : That Primordial Vessel was, as it were, a Ball of Fire. Streams of vapour were issuing forth from it. Along with the distribution of vapour came the creation. When man first came, how he did-then the next, next, next, and so all that is left to me is to take my stand on the 'next to come'. Again you'll ask, if that vapour has to go through the process of insemination in the womb of a woman, how did it assume form and grow on its own? Yes, that hollow pit of fire is the fountainhead of all creation. The Primordial womb. The creation was sorted out into different streams. Still there's no end to it.
The density of vapour: That same vapour is still in operation. The only difference is, it is getting thinner in density. The earth is the same as ever. The world of matter has been undergoing cataclysmic changes. Nevertheless, the forms of life have been multiplying day by day. Hence, it has not been possible for the vapour to remain as dense as it was. Not only have the form and appearance changed in relation to the change in the density of vapour, complexion too has undergone a change. You may observe how the human complexion is changing day by day. It's the same story with the "Vapour". It cannot remain in stable condition anywhere.
No more of Mystery: None knows what a great complicacy is involved therein! It is as if extremely difficult to find the clue. Having unraveled that it has been realized that there's absolutely nothing. Nothing is found. This comes and goes according to a law of nature. When with reference to that law we enquire- 'Is there any Master of the show, eh?', the answer we get-'Perhaps there is. But beyond anybody's reach. The one who is called 'Param Brahaman".
Then what about God? : At the root of all things, roughly speaking, we find there's, indeed, some kind of energy. What is that Energy really ? Well, this is what I have got because of realization--A Ball of Fire. Nothing else. It has only heat. In its stream there's that thing which is perennially immortal. Call that God, Iswara, one without Form, or one having Form--you may call that by whichever name you like. That is something ever beyond your reach. This is the only thing I say, some day I have realized it with all seriousness. Not that on the day I perceived that, I could perceive over and again.
Finally. what did I realize? : After having realized that, I am conscious of something within me. I can understand, there's something. What's that something--Energy or Knowledge? No, I don't comprehend it as Energy but as some kind of Knowledge. Well, not that it isn't accompanied by Energy. However, there I get Knowledge in a large measure. Energy I find in a light form. Why? Energy doesn't operate to the same extent as Knowledge does.
Merit Surmounting Demerit: If there's nothing as God, nothing to be afraid of naturally, things like errors and immoralities come trailing along. Won't this make people reckless? Answering such a question Mother says-none as deaf as those that will not hear. If they get reckless, they will get self-reliant, too. 'Whatever I do is done only in this birth.' Men will understand one stream of truth. If the bonds of law bind everything, all this is nothing.
Evil done instead of good : Smilingly Ma-Mahajnan concludes, the words are very true. Again very false. Irrelevant. Why? It's good to cut down useless trees around a ditch. Get it done, the ditch can be seen. The water inside it is bubbling. Once people see that, they'll come flocking. They'll fill it up with earth. That'll make some land available. They can run up huts on that bit of land. If nothing is done, no hut is raised; some land will be lying fallow. It's much better for lands lying barren, still they shouldn't be allowed to get rubbish accumulated.
This I have been giving away to you so far. Will somebody appear and say something new? So long I haven't got any inkling of that. Moreover, that I myself may once again return-- I do not say that too. That also occurs nowhere in my realization.
